Uniforms
Make Students Focus on School
All school-aged students should be
required to wear uniforms in school because it makes students focus more on
school and creates unity among the students. If students wear the same uniform,
students will feel connected to the same team. Moreover, students that wear
uniforms will focus less on their clothes and more on school work. On the other
hand, some people believe that students should not be required to wear uniforms
because uniforms limit individualism. Given these points, students should be
required to wear uniforms in school because it helps students focus more on
school and less on matters that do not relate to a student’s education.
If students wear the same uniforms, students
will feel connected to the same team. Students that wear similar uniforms can
see beyond the name brands clothes and logos (Ladha, 1). For example, a football player that
wears a uniform knows that he is connected to a specific football team when he
notice people who wear the same uniform. Students can see other students
for true character and not for money status (Ladha, 1). Also, students wearing
uniforms will eliminate social differences and bring students closer together
(Bodine, 67). Uniforms eliminate a student’s way of noticing who is high class
and who is low class (Bodine, 67). If students can not tell a person’s economic
status, students will hang out with people because they have good character and
not because they have a bunch of money. Uniforms often bring students together
because students’ economic dress status is not present in school (Ladha, 1).
Moreover, students that wear uniforms will
also focus less on distractions and more on school work. Students that wear the
same uniforms tend to focus more on school because their mind is not distracted
on who is wearing what (Ladha, 1). According to the President of Academy and
School Association, students should wear uniforms to reduce distractions that
might caused them to lose focus on school tasks (Parrish, 1). For example, if a
student dresses like a rocker, then that student might get provoked from other
students to play a guitar at school. Next, the student will start playing a
guitar at school and this could cause student to focus less on school tasks.
What a student chooses to wear to school can psychologically make a student
focus more on school or less on school. Some single-gender schools report that
students who wear uniforms do not think about wearing certain clothes to
impress the opposite sex (Parrish, 1). Students that wear clothes to impress
others will focus more on other students and less on school tasks that need to
be performed (Parrish, 1). Uniforms can help students realize that your actions
are what make you a person and not the clothes that you wear. Uniforms cause
students to focus less on clothes that can cause distractions and more on
working together because uniforms persuade students to think that what they are
doing in school is for the whole society.
On the contrary to uniforms bringing
students together, some people believe that students should not be required to
wear uniforms because uniforms limit individualism. Wearing uniforms might make
some students feel that they are trapped inside a certain type of lifestyle,
but students have their whole life to express being an individual. Uniforms may
limit a student’s form of self expression to only one form, however school is
just temporary process in every student’s career choice (Walsh, 3). During
school, students should focus on their school work and not on what someone else
is thinking inside their head because what a person wears has nothing to do
with the actions that make them a specific person (Walsh, 3). All students
should be allowed to explore their desires in life and experience things that
give their own life meaning, but while students are in school they should focus
on why they need to go to school. School is not a prison where a student can
not be an individual. School is a place where students attend to receive a
skill that they need in their career. A student can always be themselves
outside of school. Uniforms are for eliminating distractions and bringing
people together in order to cause students to focus on the skill that he or she
needs to learn for their career.
In conclusion, students should be required
to wear uniforms in school because it helps students focus more on school and less
on matters that do not relate to a student’s education. Students that wear
uniforms will feel like they belong to a team when they see other students
wearing the same uniforms. Students that do not wear uniforms in school may be
provoked to do other things while attending school. There are people who
believe that students should not wear uniforms because they limit a student’s
individualism, however students are suppose to learn a skill while attending
school (Walsh, 3). School is not a prison for students to attend in order to
get a job, school is a place wear students should attend to learn a skill that
can be used for a career. Uniforms bring students closer together and create a
sense of unity among the students which can cause more students to work
together in order to achieve a skill.
