What causes people to make a decision? Most people never take time to think on it. But, one must remember that learning about oneself is always important. Well, decisions are cause by three different factors that are are connected to one central element. Most people are unable to comprehend this subject because most people think they are right in their own heads. Parts of the global society determine how you make decisions. Making a decision is also influenced by the experiences you take. Experiences that you decided to take to understand or seek something. Survival also plays a part in your decision making. Survival is what gives you thoughts to decide how to live. The decisions we make are based on survival, experiences chosen, or cultural beliefs which is connected to happiness.
First, we must discuss the concept of decision making to get a better understanding of the word. A decision is another way of making a choice. We all make choices in life and sometimes they don’t make sense. We wake up everyday without asking why. Why do we do these things? Why do we decide to do this? Asking why is the foundation of any decision. Without asking why, the decisions you make will be based of the decisions of others. For example, Americans make choices that revolve around work because it has been taught to them from birth. Most of them do not ask why which leads them to making decisions based on others or monetary gain. They never dig deep enough into the “why” which determines the core of decision making. Now, decisions are something everybody makes day to day and not asking why is a tragedy to a person’s chosen path. It blocks them from making decisions that are connected to their own values and happiness. All these concepts are rooted in decision making because decisions have a lot to do with your way of doing things. I will explain more in the end.
Sometimes we let people and culture determine how we should make decisions (Maclean, p.323, 2009). When we are children and single minded, we assume the people we see in front of us represent the entire world (Maclean, p.323, 2009). For example, a tribe called “Kumbh Mela” believes that a person must perform a ritual in order to enter the next life (Maclean, p.323, 2009). The tribe believes that there is only one way to enter the after life so they commit to a ritual. Anyone who grew up in this tribe will probably assume that making a decision to commit a ritual is the right way to move forward. The person in the tribe does not know any other way to enter the after life, so they will decide to commit the ritual. I have no right to tell someone in this tribe that what they are doing is wrong because nobody really knows what they should really be doing in life. Nobody knows what each person should be doing in life to find their own happiness. This ritual might be the right decision or the wrong decision. A person that grew up in this tribe would not question the methods of the tribe because it all they know. In a sense, growing up in a certain culture will determine how you will make future decisions. But, you can always change the way you make decisions by asking “why.” However, every decision you make is connected to happiness and sometimes change interferes with your happiness. Sometimes, you need to stick to the culture you grew up in because it makes you happy.
Another example of culture beliefs which cause you to make decisions, American students go to college or trade school because they consider school to be purpose in life. Unfortunately, Most Americans do not base their purpose on happiness which blocks them from finding decisions that relate to happiness. They limit themselves to cultural expectations and only make decisions based on the decisions of others or monetary gain. It is not entirely their fault. The culture around them taught them to think this way. Only the ones that ask “why” might have a chance of finding their value of happiness. Similar to the tribe in India. They think that going to school is important because they think going to school will move them forward in life. Americans really do not know the answer to what they should be doing in life to move forward, but the American culture belief makes them think that education will help them move forward. In my own opinion, it is only important when it is connected to happiness. Your culture might decide your base for making decisions, but you must not allow it to block you from making decisions connected to happiness. Happiness is the core that make all your decisions worth while. Without happiness in your life, everything will taste like sand.
Furthermore, your choices are caused by the experiences you choose to take. There are paths you choose which later determine your future way of decision making. Some people decide to participate in a path of enlightenment to determine a meaning to life. You might think this is a waste of time. Although, I think watching others on a box all day and learning nothing is a waste of time. Some people make decisions and they want to know why so they decide to experience something. They want to know why because they want to know if their decisions pertain to something they want. They want to know if it pertains to happiness or sand. Sand would be the hour glass of time counting down to death. If something you choose to do relates to sand, you are just waiting to die. Knowing what makes you happy from experiences is what allow people to discover more ways to do something. This makes it easier to decide what they should be doing in life that is connected to happiness. Sometimes we do not know how to make a decision because we have not taken any experiences. We have not tried to do things that really matter to us or we haven’t tried to do something new. Some experiences are small and others are large. Every experience you choose matters because it connected to how you feel about your life which is connected to your decision making.
I will now tell you story to give you an example of how experiences affect your decision making. There once was a young woman who wanted to experience something meaningful (Ali921812, 2013). She felt that her life was not meaningful. Maybe she didn’t make the decisions she really wanted. She wanted to experience something so meaningful that it would cause her to think differently and make different decisions (Ali921812, 2013). She was getting tired of her routine life. She needed something different so she decided to cut her hair (Ali921812, 2013). She grew up with long hair since her child hood days (Ali921812, 2013). She was taught to have long hair in order to have honor in her life (Ali921812, 2013). Unfortunately, she didn’t feel that her hair brought her honor in her life (Ali921812, 2013). She decided to cut it off and show her parents the new look (Ali921812, 2013). Her parents were very upset and told her that she was a disgrace to being a good person (Ali921812, 2013). She wanted to experience something different to bring meaning to her life and to be able to make different decisions for once in her life (Ali921812, 2013). She grew tired of doing the same routine over and over (Ali921812, 2013). We all feel the same need at times to think or do things differently to achieve more (Ali921812, 2013). She learned a new way of making decisions due to embarrassing her self to her parents (Ali921812, 2013). She learned that sometimes pleasing people will only hold you back (Ali921812, 2013). She gained new perspective on making decisions that is based on the likes of her parents to find her own happiness (Ali921812, 2013). Her parents made her happy, but she had to experience something to determine what really makes her happy.
Sometimes what prevents you from making decisions you really want to make is not jumping (Ali921812, 2013). You choose not to jump because you want people to like you. You want to be loved by everyone which involves not choosing the experiences you want to have. You need to choose your own experiences in order to develop a new way of decision making that is more evolved (Ali921812, 2013). How would you really know something if you don’t give it a try? You can spectate and predict, but you will not really know what is going to happen next. You have to jump in your own way in order to make evolved decisions connected to happiness (Ali921812, 2013).
Survival can cause you to make decisions. The decisions you make are based on the constant state of worrying that exist in you. There was a man named Gersi who went on adventures with various tribes across the world (Brody, 1992). Gersi wanted to experience different ways of thinking because he wanted to gain something more (Brody, 1992). Gersi once wrote, “I am more scared of certain parts of Los Angeles then being lost in the jungle (Brody, 1992).” This quote is suggests that survival is all about making decisions to stay alive (Brody, 1992). In some ways, it is about staying alive and making decisions that are connected to that aspect. Survival connects to living and living connects to happiness. A person will generally feel happy if they know they are going to be alive tomorrow. So, we always tend to make decisions based on survival because we want to be happy. Living gives us time to do things in life that we find enjoyable. Doing things we find enjoyable makes us happy and grateful for being alive. Not making decisions that are connected to survival will make us feel miserable because we secretly know that it will kill us or take time from us. Time that we can’t get back. Time that we want to use to enjoy life. We have to make decisions connected to survival to give us time. Time that we need to make decisions based on happiness.
How are the three factors discussed in this report important? Why am I writing this paper to begin with? Why does this stuff really matter? Well, it matters to every single one of us. Each of us are looking for happiness, but we do not know the right decisions. We do not know how to make the right decisions because we do not know what causes the decisions. As a result, most of us drift off in the clouds and pretend like everything is okay. But, some of us need to know the cause. Your decisions are based on survival, chosen experiences, or cultural beliefs. All your decisions are mainly connected to your view of happiness. Your view of happiness. Overtime, you might start realize that you view of happiness changes over the years. There is a part of you that want to know if your decisions are currently making you happy. You have to tap into that deep cave of understanding and find something that makes you want to wake up tomorrow. You need to find beliefs of your own to learn how to make the right decisions to make your life happy. Happiness connects survival, experiences, and cultural beliefs by making you realize one important thing about your self which is that happiness matters. Yes, happiness is the main element in everyday activity. Everything you do in life should be about happiness. It is not about words or what material object you have. It is not about trying to make sense of complicated subjects that are better off answered with a simple answer. It is not about proving to the world that you are right in every decision you make. It is about how you feel. That is what it is all about. Your decisions in life should be based on that. In time, your happiness will make all of them worth it. As long as you feel generally happy, nothing else in the world matters. Happiness is what you secretly want day after day and hour after hour. Yes, you might think that I am not really telling you anything. Your wrong, people tend to generally forget that feeling happy is what is most important. They try so hard to please the world and ignore their happiness. As a result, they end up not being happy and then they die. Then, at the last of their days they realize that should have did something to be happy even if it was stupid to begin with. The decisions you make affect how you feel. If you are feeling low, you need to figure out “why” and figure out how to change your thoughts to fix it. The purpose of this paper was to remind people that you should make decisions to make your self happy not to do things to be miserable. That should never be your life.
You must understand the cause of your decisions to understand yourself. We do not know who we are. Some of us like to pretend that we know. But, we do not know who we are. We need to understand our self from the world around us and the world within. One way to understand ourselves is by making decisions that are connected to happiness. What we find as important or what we hold is true happiness should be the front goal of our life. It is not about who knows the most stuff. It is about what you belief makes you happy and what you belief will set you free. Free from all the pain and misery of the world. You want to escape from this misery, but you lack the right beliefs to do so. You lack the right ideas which I’m trying to tell you in order to cause you to make decisions based on your own happiness. Your feelings of happiness matter in your life. You need to take time out and understand what that really means to you. Happiness means something different to each person. You need to find out what it means to you. Who is right is not relevant when it comes to happiness. People all over the world have different views on what makes a person happy, but you need to find the views that you are interested in. The views that you are interested in will make you happy. You judge the views by your feelings and in time you will know how to make the right decisions to make you happy.
I will conclude this report by saying your decisions are based on happiness. You knew it your whole life, but you wanted reassurance. No, you do not need reassurance nor do you need anyone telling you what makes you happy. You have to find that out for your self. What works for somebody else might not work for you. You must decide things that makes you feel happy. You can not look at the world around you and say “I need to do that to be happy.” No, you need to do what you feel you should do to be happy. Survival, chosen experiences, and some cultural beliefs will guide you to that destination. For once in you life, make decisions that make you happy and forget everything else. Nobody really knows what decision to make. Just an idea.
