The Assassin and the Purple Water

Kim's body rolls down the stone steps as the sword is removed from his back. A red knight shakes his sword and then looks at Marius. The operation had failed. There were more guards than the merchant on the bridge interpreted. Kim and Marius were tasked with killing a man in the Halfor Castle. A black castle with 30 floors built inside a trench. 4 wooden bridges connected the castle to the outside. “Kim no,” said Marius. Another red knight in front gripped on a one handed axe.  He charged for an attack. Marius became filled with rage. He raised his black bladed dagger from the belt. Holded the brown handle tight and prepared for a block. The axe tapped on the blade. Skidded across the tip of the knife. Marius punched the red knight in the gut with his free hand. Hitting the unprotected yellow cloth shirt. He wanted the battle to be over quickly. Kim was the archer that saved him from the wolves. Six years ago, Marius dropped his 18 inch sword while running away from a large group of combatants. Taking a small job to kill one man turned out to be a death mission. He didn’t have time to go back to the camp's lunch table and pick up his sword. He decided to run to the woods. Running on a path that had river not too far. After 3 miles of stepping, he took a left and squatted in the long grass on the side. The soldiers ran past him without thinking about peeking to the left as Marius anticipated. It was already darker than the caves of Black Ringe. So, the odds of Marius getting spotted was far less than 1/10.

Marius stood up and saw a river on the other side. A river that looked purple in the small ounce of moonlight shinning behind the trees. He Traveled towards the river. Moving past the long grass and bushes. His throat felt dry all of a sudden. Marius came to the water and bent down. Took out his satchel and refilled. Then, put the water to his lips. Consumes and learns the water is satisfying. Then, Marius noticed something in the center. A giant rock between the stream. The purple river reflected his body walking closer to the rock. Marius touched the rock and got on top of it. After sitting there for 2 hours, he decided to take a nap. Figured it was a nice spot to sleep. Later, his eyelids lifted up. Hissing and howls echoed with the wind. It was far away. Marius figured the wolves would pass him, so he went back to sleep. More howling now. It seemed to be more then one. The howling was starting to get closer. Marius sat up and saw a pack of 20 wolves starring. They surrounded him and bear nasty yellow fangs from their mouths. Each with the look of wanting to bite a man. Growls got bigger and more foul.

Marius looked around the rock for an opening. But, the wolves had everything cornered. An arrow shoots from behind a bush. Hits the alpha wolf. The wolf falls to the right and leaks blood from its middle section. Legs curl up and head twitch. The other wolves look at eachother and then run. “Hey, did it bite ya?” said Kim. A young boy was coming closer with a bow on his back. “No, I am fine. You shot the arrow?” said Marius.

“Yes,  it was my arrow. You was about to die. I couldn’t let them eat you.”
“That would not be in my best interest. I owe you.”
“Hey, uh no, sir warrior. You don’t have to pay me something in return. I was just helping out. How about we become friends and watch each other’s backs?”
“I suppose. Your name?”
“Kim.”
“Kim, my name is Marius.”
